The Proms At St Jude's, London
 

"Events, like "Proms at St. Jude's" don't just happen!

 

For our small committee and a band of enthusiastic helpers, it involves a year's hard work of meetings, booking artists and securing contracts, cajoling advertisers to buy space in the programme, printing tickets for each concert, ordering chairs, arranging catering, ensuring lighting and staging will be available and a host of small tasks which together form the event held, of course, according to the relative health and safety regulations. This year, these regulations seemed to be a real obstacle to our continuing what has become a premier event in the North London musical calendar!  We therefore decided to hire a professional to help and guide us.

 

For our 2008 Proms at St. Jude's, we scanned lists of "event managers" and "health and safety officers", and came upon Serena Varley. On the strength of the references we took up, we engaged her to act as our Event Manager, as well as our Health and Safety Officer.  We were delighted with how she organised us and our helpers, ensuring that all the events - lunchtime recitals and evening concerts - ran smoothly and without a hitch.  We also left her to organise a film unit making a DVD of one of the evening concerts, and her knowledge about the legalities of what they could and could not do was most useful. This charming Yorkshire lass managed to calmly organise at least twenty five camera men, lighting and sound technicians, and others without who a DVD is, seemingly, impossible to make. 

 

Serena was inconspicuous but always present and available behind the scenes, and we are looking forward to having her organise us yet again for the Proms at St. Jude's 2009."
